Selma Kambwela - Bachelors of Journalism and Media Techonology

Brief: NUST FM Currently appointed Graphic Designer

Share your achievement/success story in detail. I first interned at the United Nations Information Centre, where I got my first production project on promoting the Sustainable Development Goals. After then I graduated and got an internship at the Namibia Press Agency as a camera operator and video editor for parliament and current affairs news stories. About 10 of my stories have aired on NBC News. I went on ahead to work for AfriNam, where I edited the Planet Michaels reality TV show on One Africa Television. I was exposed to a lot in terms of what goes into television production and I loved every minute of it. I landed that job because of the YouTube channel I have. Fast forward to September 2020, I become the production manager at NUST FM.

Tell us more about your journey leading up to this moment. After learning how to video edit from my TV production lecturers Mr Hugh Ellis and Mr Kazembire Zemburuka in 2017, I immediately became a YouTuber and became Namibia's most subscribed content creators with over 12000 subscribers. The YouTube gave me a lot experience and an upper hand in job interviews because I started creating content even before I graduated. After having interned and worked at various companies, I now find myself at NUST FM.

What does this achievement mean to you and how will you use it to motivate others? This achievement means a lot to me, mainly because I got exposed to a different type of production. I had not tapped into and with each day that passes, I learn and perfect my craft. I use this achievement to motivate others by putting my work out and having them know it’s this little village girl that did the things and if she can, anyone else who puts their minds to what they want to achieve, can too.

What are your plans for the future? To continue my studies in television production at the American Film Institutions, Scotland and come back to Namibia and implement everything I've learned.
